Umbrella Rigs are fairly new to bass fishing, but they have gotten very popular rather quickly. In some states, this rig isn’t legal if you attach lures to each one of the swivels. Because of this, some anglers will attach baits with no hooks or spinners on some of the swivels as teasers to make sure they stay within their state’s laws.
If you live in a state that allows you to fish with this rig, it can be very effective, especially when bass are schooling up over deeper water. Most anglers use some type of soft plastic bait that has a swimming action. It does a great job of imitating schooling bait fish.
