Area Waters


Gallatin River


The Gallatin River is located about 8 miles west of Bozeman.  It is the home town river for Bozeman and is a very popular fishery due to its large numbers of rainbow trout and brown trout.


Yellowstone River


The Yellowstone River is a big river that flows through Yellowstone National Park and out of the park as well.  It is a huge river that flows for close to 700 miles.  In the park, anglers usually report better fishing, however, there are plenty of trout that can be found in the waters that are outside of the park.  Float trips are popular ways to fish these waters outside of the park.  It’s big water and you need to be careful on this river.  The Yellowstone River flows near several towns, so you have the option to fish this river from several different areas.  It is located about 25 miles east of Bozeman, so it’s just a short drive to some awesome fishing.  Anglers target cutthroat trout, brown trout and rainbow trout.  There are some big fish in this river too.


Madison River


The Madison River is a phenomenal river for fishing and a very diverse fishery.  There are many different sections of this river as it winds from the Yellowstone Park through several different lakes, through the valley and eventually will join the Gallatin and Jefferson Rivers.  The area you’re fishing will dictate the type of fishing you will experience, however, the river is known for having a very good fishery for brown trout and rainbow trout.  Whitefish are available too in some stretches.  The lower Madison River is only about 20 miles away, however, the Upper Madison River is a lot further away from Bozeman.


Private Waters


There are some private waters here if you want to fish some stillwater.  There are guides that are available for hire to show you to some of these awesome private lakes.  Most of them offer very good fishing for a variety of trout.
