Welcome to our Toledo, Ohio Fishing Home Page

Toledo is a popular destination on Lake Erie for walleye, smallmouth bass and perch anglers. The Maumee River provides lots of angling opportunities here as well.

The Spring Spawn

This is the time of year that puts the Toledo area on the map for Lake Erie walleye fishing. With so many walleye pushing their way to the western part of the lake to spawn, the fishing can be pretty incredible on this part of Lake Erie during this time of year. While many walleye move into the Detroit River farther north of Toledo, you can find plenty of walleye moving into the Toledo area as well with the Maumee River getting a large run of spring walleye. Once the walleye spawn is over, there is also a popular white bass run that provides exciting fishing in the river as well.

Lake Erie

This part of Lake Erie is definitely a better spring / early summer walleye destination because of the spawn. However, anglers catch walleye, smallmouth bass and perch here throughout the fishing season.

Maumee River

The Maumee River gets a lot of attention in the spring for its walleye and white bass runs, however, there are a lot of other fish to catch here as well. It is a very good smallmouth bass river with some very big fish that move into the river from Lake Erie. Some of the other fish to target are crappie, bluegill, northern pike, perch, carp and catfish.

Walleye Fishing

The walleye fishing is very good here on Lake Erie and in the Maumee River when the walleye are running. The spring is definitely the best time to be fishing this area whether you are in the lake or the river. This area is unique because there are plenty of shore options for catching big walleye throughout this area. Whether you fish the river or the lake, you have a lot of options overall and you can get into good numbers of fish with trophy walleye too.

Yellow Perch Fishing

Walleye may get most of the attention here, but the yellow perch fishery is pretty good here too. Many of the boats will target them specifically and you can find good numbers of perch in this area from spring through fall as well.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing

On this end of the lake, you can find smallmouth bass out in Lake Erie, however, the Maumee River attracts many smallmouth bass anglers. The Maumee River is known for its spring walleye run, however, once this run is over, you can usually find plenty of smallmouth bass from late spring through fall.
