Deep Water

Bass will relate to all types of structure such as creek channels, shallow flats, a deep hole or a sunken island.  The time of year, time of day and type of water can all change what type of structure the fish are relating to.  When the water warms in the summer time and when it cools down in the late fall, some of the best bass fishing will take place over deep water.  Successful bass anglers know how to target bass in deep water near creek channels, off of points, along weed edges, around humps and near shallow flats.

Fish the Drop-Offs

Most of the time, you’re going to find plenty of fish right on the drop.  If you are off 5 to 10 feet, you may be missing a lot of big bass.

Use Your Electronics

It’s almost impossible to fish efficiently and effectively when targeting bass in deep water if you don’t have good electronics.  Find the better drops to fish and mark them with your gps.

Get Your Baits Down There

If you don’t get your baits down to the appropriate depths, you’re not going to catch fish.

Deep Diving Crankbaits May Be Best

It’s tough to beat a deep diving crankbaits when fishing deep water.
