Centrally located near the junction of Hwy 51/39 and Hwy 29, Wausau is a town that many people drive through on their way up to fish northern Wisconsin. For some people, their drive ends here as they make their fishing memories on the area river systems. This is a pretty good-sized town, so you have plenty here as far as accommodations, restaurants and area businesses to make your trip a convenient one. You won’t find all the lakes that you would see just a couple more hours up north, but there is some pretty good fishing if you’re willing to take the time to learn the river systems here.
