Galveston is a good-sized city that is located along the Gulf Coast region of Texas.  The city is a tourist destination with many places to stay from hotels to motels to vacation rentals.  There are plenty of tourist attractions to go along with many outdoor activities such as fishing, boating and other water sports.

With water surrounding Galveston, fishermen can find plenty of water to target redfish, trout, red snapper, shark, tarpon and many other types of saltwater fish.  Fish inshore, nearshore, offshore or from the surf.



Inshore Fishing


The Galveston area is an awesome inshore fishing destination.  The bay area provides so many opportunities to catch so many different fish depending on the season.  Anglers usually target redfish and trout here, but you can also find sheepshead, jack crevalle, black drum and more.


Nearshore Fishing


Nearshore, anglers can run the beaches and target a variety of fish here. The inshore and offshore fishing will usually trump here for most anglers, however, when there are some tarpon and cobia in the area, there are some anglers that will run the beaches in search of them. Some other fish that you can target nearshore are grouper, snapper, kingfish, Spanish mackerel and more.


Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing


The Galveston area is great with the inshore fishing opportunities and some very good offshore fishing too depending on the season. Depending on where you launch your boat, it can be a short boat ride or a long boat ride to get into the Gulf. There are plenty of offshore charters here who fish for a variety of fish. Some of the popular fish that are caught offshore here are grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, king mackerel, barracuda, sharks, tuna, sailfish, marlin and others too.


Surf & Pier Fishing


The Galveston area offers anglers a lot of shore fishing opportunities with the beaches and the piers in the area. Most anglers are looking for redfish and trout, but depending on the season, you may be able to catch whiting, pompano, spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, sharks and more.
