Wilmington, NC & Its Beaches is a wonderful beach vacation destination with some outstanding inshore and offshore fishing.  Whether you are looking to stay in the town of Wilmington or out on the beaches of Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach, you have plenty of options for lodging and recreation.

The Wilmington area offers anglers plenty of options for fishing.  Stay in the river and target a variety of inshore species such as redfish, trout, flounder and more.  Go out into the ocean and fish nearshore or offshore.  The beaches provide some good shore fishing as well from the surf or from the piers.

Inshore Fishing

The inshore fishing opportunities are outstanding in the Wilmington, NC area. With the Cape Fear River and Brunswick River, there is a lot of protected water to fish here if you plan on staying inshore. There is also some very good fishing inshore around Wrightsville Beach, Sea Breeze and Carolina Beach. Redfish, sea trout, flounder, sheepshead and striped bass are some of the more popular species of fish that most anglers target inshore, but there are several other species of fish that you may also catch here.

Nearshore Fishing

In the nearshore waters, anglers target Spanish mackerel, kingfish, cobia, bluefish, sharks, albacore tuna and others. You can definitely go out into the Atlantic Ocean to catch some fish without traveling far into the offshore waters, so if this is something that interests you, give the nearshore waters a try on your next trip to this area.

Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing

This area is known for some very good offshore fishing for a variety of different species of fish. Whether you go out in your own boat or hire a fishing charter, you can expect to find several different species of fish in the offshore waters around Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. Some of the common species of fish that are caught are sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, grouper and amberjack.

Surf & Pier Fishing

This area’s beaches offer anglers some very good fishing opportunities from the surf and the piers. Some of the fish that anglers target here from the piers are sheepshead, flounder, redfish, pompano, kingfish, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, black drum, sea trout and flounder, but there are other species of fish available too. From the surf, you can catch many of the same species of fish depending on the time of year. Some of the more common fish caught from the surf are whiting, bluefish, black drum, bluefish, redfish and flounder.
