Manistique is located in the Upper Peninsula near the Bay de Noc area.  It’s not a large city, but it is located on the shores of Lake Michigan and this area is popular for tourism. This area is home to “The Big Spring” which is the largest in Michigan.  It’s over 40 feet deep and 16,000 gallons of clear water gush per minute.  The water is crystal clear and there are tons of trout that call this area home.  It’s a cool place to see.



Salmon & Trout Fishing


Anglers can fish Lake Michigan for king salmon, steelhead & brown trout.  There are a few fishing charters in this area that can help put you on the fish in the waters around Manistique.  The Manistique River also gets a good run of salmon and trout in the fall, so you can catch some fish with a smaller boat or from shore.


Walleye Fishing


Walleye can be found in the Manistique River, especially during the fall months.  Some of the area lakes around Manistique also have walleye available.  Bay de Noc is also close to Manistique and it is one of the better big walleye destinations in the midwest.


Northern Pike Fishing


Northern pike can be found in the Manistique River and in some of the area lakes near Manistique.  An occasional pike may also be caught out in Lake Michigan.  Nearby, Bay de Noc offers anglers some good northern pike fishing as well.


Smallmouth Bass Fishing


Smallmouth bass can be found in the Manistique River, out in Lake Michigan and in many of the inland lakes in the Manistique area.  Nearby, Bay de Noc is known as an awesome walleye fishery, but smallmouth bass can be found here as well.  A short drive to the northeast is the Manistique Lakes area (Curtis, MI) and you can find some smallmouth bass in several of the lakes in this area as well.


Perch Fishing


Perch can be found in Lake Michigan and in many of the area lakes near Manistique. Indian Lake is the 4th largest inland lake in the U.P. and it can offer some good fishing for perch as well.
