Marco Island is the largest of Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands. This island is a very popular tourist attraction. There are miles of uninhabited islands, tons of wildlife and excellent fishing to go along with the white beaches and beautiful sunsets. Marco Island is not very large, but it is easily one of the top vacation destinations in all of Florida.
For the people who like to fish, Marco Island is one of those places that you have to visit at least once. The fishing is excellent inshore and offshore. The backwaters of some of the 10,000 islands will seem endless and you can catch snook, redfish, tarpon, trout and many other species of fish in the calm, protected waters.
Inshore Fishing
The inshore fishing is incredible in the Marco Island area. Some of the popular fish to catch inshore are snook, redfish, sea trout and tarpon. However, there are so many more fish that you can catch here. With all of the docks, canals, bays and mangroves, there are so many awesome fishing spots that you can fish here. Some of the other fish that you may catch inshore are sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano and jack crevalle. The tides play a huge role in whether or not you will catch fish inshore. Moving water is key for most species of fish and the slack tide usually provides the worst fishing conditions for most fish.

Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
Marco Island has plenty of structure to fish offshore and there are plenty of fishing charters that fish this area. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. The most popular species of fish that anglers will target here are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper. Some other fish that are targeted offshore are barracuda, bonito, sharksand others.
Surf & Pier Fishing
Surf Fishing Fishing from the surf is popular on the beaches of Marco Island. Anglers target a variety of fish from the surf. Some of the popular species of fish to catch from the surf in this area are snook, whiting, pompano and redfish, but depending on the season, you may also be able to catch spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, sharks and other species of fish. If you are looking to fish from a pier, you may want to head north to Naples, Florida.
