Welcome to our Lake Gogebic Fishing Home Page

Lake Gogebic is located in the Upper Peninsula and it is Michigan’s largest inland lake. This lake is very popular for fishing, boating and camping.  With over 13,000 acres of water, there is a lot of water here to fish, but with some good electronics and a fishing map, you should be able to narrow down some of the better fishing spots a lot faster.  Lake Gogebic is known as a very good walleye and perch lake, but you can also target northern pike, smallmouth bass and whitefish.

Primary Species of Fish

Walleye & Perch

Lake Gogebic is primarily a walleye and perch lake.  There is some very good fishing for smallmouth bass and northern pike too, but the walleye and perch are what most people come here for.  Anglers can catch good numbers of walleye and perch here with lots of smaller, eating-size walleye in the lake and some nice jumbo-sized perch as well.  You will find some bigger walleye here too, but it’s been known as a great numbers lake for many years.

Secondary Species of Fish

Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass & Trout

If you want to fish for northern pike and smallmouth bass, you can definitely have some success here.  Some anglers report excellent smallmouth bass fishing here with some quality fish too.  The pike anglers will usually get some action and there are some good-sized pike here too.  For the trout anglers, there are some nearby streams that anglers fish for brook trout.

Walleye

Lake Gogebic is known as a good walleye lake for numbers and some big fish up to and above 10 pounds are caught here as well.  This lake has a track record more for having good numbers of eater-sized fish than trophy fish, so you should be able to catch plenty of walleye to eat and there is a chance to bump into a bigger fish.  All of the typical methods for catching walleye will work on Lake Gogebic.

Northern Pike

Lake Gogebic has good fishing for northern pike with some big fish available.  Most anglers that come here prefer to fish for walleye, but if you want to fish for pike, you should be able to catch some fish.  Pike above 30 inches are fairly common and some big fish in the upper 30 inches are available in the lake.

Perch

Lake Gogebic has some very good fishing for perch.  If you know how to fish for perch, you should be able to catch good numbers of them on this lake.  If you can find the schools of jumbo perch, it is possible to catch some very big perch in the 12 to 15 inch range on Lake Gogebic.

Smallmouth Bass

Lake Gogebic is known as a good smallmouth bass fishing lake.  There are a lot of 2 to 3 pound bass in the lake with some bigger fish in the 4 to 5 pound range as well.  Many anglers will come to this lake to fish for walleye and smallmouth bass and in some of the rocky areas on the lake, you can catch both species of fish in the same location.  Late spring and early summer are probably the best times to target smallmouth bass because they are all over the shallows, but if you know how to fish deeper water, you should be able to catch some nice fish here in the summer and fall as well.
