Welcome to our Virginia Beach Fishing Home Page

Virginia Beach is the most populous city in all of Virginia with more than 430,000 people.  Located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, this city is known as a very popular resort town with miles of beaches and plenty of hotels, motels and restaurants along the oceanfront.

Because of its easy access to the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay, anglers have a lot of options when planning a fishing trip here.  You can catch a variety of inshore or offshore species in this area, however, striped bass probably get the most attention when they move into the area.  Fish the beaches, piers, inshore or offshore.  It’s all here in Virginia Beach.

Inshore Fishing

Take a short boat ride into Chesapeake Bay or take a short drive in the truck to go launch your boat in nearby Chesapeake Bay.  The bay is home to the largest inshore fishing area in the country.  There are so many places you can fish here without needing a huge boat, however, because the bay is so large, it can get quite rough even though, it is protected well from the Atlantic Ocean.  Inshore, striped bass are the most popular sport fish targeted in this area.  However, there are plenty of other fish you can catch inshore here.  Anglers target bluefish, sea bass, sea trout, flounder and sharks too.  It’s a tremendous inshore fishery.

Nearshore Fishing

The nearshore reefs and wrecks outside of Virginia Beach are home to a variety of fish.  Anglers may find striped bass, bluefish, sharks, sea bass and other species too.  When the striped bass are in thick, you may find some boats targeting these fish nearshore in this area.

Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing

You will find the species of fish that are known to be found on the northern Atlantic coast as well as some of the species of fish that are known for being along the Atlantic coast on the southern states and through Florida.  This gives anglers so many options to target so many different types of fish offshore.  Some of the popular fish that anglers target are marlin, tuna, sailfish, wahoo, snapper, grouper and sharks, but there are so many other fish that you can also catch here.

Surf & Pier Fishing

Virginia Beach has miles of beaches to go along with plenty of fishing piers to keep the shore angler busy.  Striped bass are the most popular fish that are targeted here from the surf and the piers, however, you can also catch a variety of other fish such as bluefish, whiting, an occasional trout or even flounder.  Because Virginia Beach is located right at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, there are so many fish that you may end up catching as they move in and out of the bay.
