Welcome to our Outing, MN Fishing Home Page

Outing, Minnesota is not a very popular fishing vacation destination, although, it really is a great spot to grab some lodging if you have some time to experience the area.  If you had a week here, you could easily fish the Whitefish Chain of Lakes,  Leech Lake and Mille Lacs Lake.  These lakes all provide some awesome fishing and are with 30 minutes to an hour from Outing, Minnesota.

There a few good lakes worth fishing and there are some fishing resorts in the area to accommodate you.  It’s a great place to visit if you want to get away from the crowds, but still have good fishing close by.  Anglers can target muskie, northern pike, walleye, bass and panfish in the area lakes.

Primary Species of Fish

Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye

Most of the lakes in this area have good numbers of northern pike and largemouth bass in them.  Walleye are available in many lakes, but they aren’t the dominant species of fish in all of the lakes.  Anglers still like to fish for them though, so for most anglers, they are the primary species of fish they are targeting.  If you are looking for walleye, you may want to try Thunder Lake, Washburn Lake or Roosevelt Lake.  Leech Lake is close by and gives you a much better chance to catch more walleye and better quality fish too.

Secondary Species of Fish

Smallmouth Bass, Muskie, Perch, Crappie, Bluegill

Muskie stocking started in Roosevelt Lake, so we’ll see if a catchable population of muskie will result from it over the next few years.  Smallmouth bass are in a few lakes, but they aren’t the dominant species of fish, so don’t expect to catch a bunch of smallies on a trip here.  Most of the lakes have panfish such as perch, crappie and bluegill as well.
