Welcome to our Charlotte Harbor, FL Fishing Home Page
The harbor is a beautiful area and it offers some excellent boating, fishing, sailing, uncrowded beaches, unique shopping and dining. The towns that help make up this area are Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Boca Grande and Bokeelia.
Charlotte Harbor is arguably the most popular tarpon fishing destination in the world. During the peak of the tarpon run every summer, you can see hundreds of boats gathered almost on top of each other as they are fighting fish that sometimes weigh well over 100 pounds.
The Charlotte Harbor area is home to some excellent inshore fishing for a variety of fish. Many anglers come here to fish for snook, redfish, sea trout and tarpon, however, there are so many more fish that you can catch here. Sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano and jack crevalle are just some of the other types of fish you may catch. The tides play a huge role in whether or not you will catch fish inshore, so make sure to fish the tidal changes for the peak fishing conditions.
Anglers target many different species of fish nearshore. Because the tarpon run is so strong here, many anglers fish the nearshore waters for tarpon. Some of the other fish to catch nearshore are grouper, snapper, kingfish, Spanish mackerel, cobia, permit, snook and goliath grouper, but there are others too. The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent, but you can catch fish nearshore year-round in this area.
Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
Charlotte Harbor has some excellent fishing in the offshore waters here. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. There are several fishing charters in this area that target a variety of fish such as grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack, barracuda, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, goliath grouper and others.
Surf & Pier Fishing
The Charlotte Harbor area has several fishing piers throughout the area to fish and there are some beaches that you can fish from the surf as well. Some of the fish that you may catch from the piers are snook, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, flounder, pompano, cobia, tarpon, sharks, kingfish, spanish mackerel and others.
From the surf, anglers usually target whiting, pompano, snook and redfish, but depending on the season, you may also be able to catch spanish mackerel, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, sharks and other species of fish.
