Fishing Tackle | Hard Baits | Crankbaits
Flatfish are extremely popular lures for catching salmon and trout. Most anglers troll for salmon and trout when using flatfish. Anglers also catch walleye, bass and northern pike with flatfish. To put more walleye into the boat, many walleye anglers will add a nightcrawler to the front or the back treble hook when trolling. This is a technique that has been around for a while and it can help you catch a lot more walleye with the flatfish lures.
Tackle Recommendations
Rod, Reel & Line
Flatfish are used mostly on baitcasters but you can break out your spinning gear too. There are many different sizes, so you may be using light tackle with 4 to 6 pound test line while targeting smaller bass or going with heavy tackle such as medium-heavy to heavy action rods and reels with 20 to 30 pound test line or more while targeting big walleye, pike and even muskie.
