The split shot rig is great when spotted bass are suspended or in shallower water. Use just enough weight to get your bait down a little and let your bait do it’s job to get bit. There are a lot of soft plastics that look good on a split shot rig, however, it’s tough to beat live bait with this rig. A lively nightcrawler, leech or minnow falling slowly through the water column is one of the best ways to catch a lot of these suspended bass.
