Weedless Spoons

Fishing Tackle | Hard Baits | Spoons

Weedless Spoons are exactly what they sound like.  These spoons are made to be weedless, so you can get away with fishing in a variety of different types of cover.  Scattered weeds, lily pads, weed pockets, and wood are all good places to fish these weedless spoons.  They can be very effective for a variety of species, but anglers typically are targeting bass, walleye and northern pike with these spoons.

Tackle Recommendations

Rod, Reel & Line

Weedless Spoons are usually fished with a baitcaster with heavier line and a heavier rod, however, spinning gear works fine too if you can get the heavier line on the spool that you’re using.  If you go with spinning gear, we recommend using a low diameter line such as braid or even some of the new super lines that are now on the market.  When using weedless spoons, you’ll most likely be fishing for largemouth bass or northern pike and you’re going to be fishing around cover.  In this situations, 30 to 50 pound line combined with a heavy action rod will be necessary to pull out the real big fish.  If you’re catching a bunch of 2 pounders, you can easily get away with 10 to 12 pound line, but when you get that big fish bite, you’re going to be glad you’re using heavier tackle.
