Perrault Lake Walleye Fishing

Perrault Lake is a good walleye lake, however, some anglers that come here will really struggle to catch walleye.  There are plenty of people who come here year after year and report great walleye fishing.

Clear Water Walleye Fishing

The clear water here can make it tough on many anglers, but the walleye are here if you put in the time for them.  Early in the year, fishing is easiest as many walleye can be found in the shallows around weeds and rocks.  As summer rolls around though, you are going to have to fish deeper.  You may be fishing 20 to 30 feet down and fluorocarbon line will make a huge difference as well.  Anglers who use 4 to 6 pound fluorocarbon line will usually do a lot better on Perrault Lake.

Fish the Low Light Periods

In clear water, walleye fishing is always easier during the low light periods of the day.  If you come to Perrault Lake and find the walleye fishing difficult, you might be better off just fishing for walleye during the peak bite in the morning and evening.  Go fish for smallmouth bass, perch and northern pike during the day and you will get plenty of action and still catch enough walleye for your dinner.

Fish the Offshore Structure

Islands

There are several islands on Perrault Lake.  Fish the deeper water around these islands.  During the early mornings and evenings, you may find walleye moving shallower as well.  On windy days, the islands can also be very productive as the waves crash into the shores.

Rock Humps

Many anglers do well by fishing the rock humps from summer through fall for walleye.  These fish might be on these spots throughout the day, however, the times that they bite could be small windows.  When you mark some nice schools of fish on your electronics on these spots, make sure to save the gps points and come back to these spots early in the morning, in the evening or on overcast days.

Fish the Points

There are many points on Perrault Lake and points will always hold some fish.  Earlier in the year, you may find walleye moving into shallower water around the points, however, in the summer and fall, you need to fish the deeper water off of these points.

Fish the Weeds

Perrault Lake has a lot more rock than weeds in it and the weeds are usually more of a northern pike pattern, but you can also catch some walleye around the weeds.  Early in the year, the weeds can be a solid pattern and the deeper weed edges will hold some walleye in the summer and fall.  On Perrault Lake, the rock structures are going to be the spots you are going to want to learn to consistently catch walleye here.

Catch Trophy Walleye

Trophy walleye are definitely available in Perrault Lake.  Many anglers will go up to Lac Seul to target bigger walleye and it is hard to blame them since the walleye fishing is so good on Lac Seul for numbers and big fish.  If you are fishing Perrault Lake though, there are big walleye here up to and above 30 inches.

Best Baits for Walleye

Walleye eat a variety of different baits, however, when push comes to shove, it is much easier to catch them with live baits.  Minnowsnightcrawlers and leeches are definitely the best live baits for walleye.
