Rainbow and trout are the primary species of fish in the upper part of the lake, closer to the dam. In the warmer part of the lake, mainly below Rockaway Beach, you can find other species of fish too. Largemouth bass are the most common bass, however, smallmouth and spotted bass are present as well. Bluegill, crappie, walleye and white bass can be found in the lake too.

Bull Shoals Lake offers anglers some good fishing for largemouth bass. There are good numbers of them in the lake as well as some big fish too. With its deep and clear water, most anglers do better on this lake by fishing deeper and with lighter line than they would on most other lakes that they fish. Best Baits for Largemouth Bass
Largemouth bass will eat so many different baits and there are so many different lures that are made for catching these fish. Anglers have more options than they really need, but since we have all these options, it’s nice to know about the different baits that are available.
Minnows, nightcrawlers and leeches are definitely the best live baits for largemouth bass. When it comes to artificial lures, you have so many options. Soft plastic worms, lizards, crayfish baits and minnows work great. Hard baits such as crankbaits, topwater lures, spinnerbaits, jigs and jerkbaits are also all awesome choices for largemouth bass.
