Lake Trout

Lake trout are found in the deeper lakes here.  They are under fished here by most anglers, but if you want to target them, you can definitely do so and catch some fish.  Minnitaki Lake and Big Vermilion Lake are the lakes to fish if you want to target lake trout here.

Big Vermilion Lake

Big Vermilion Lake is so deep with cool, clear water and it is perfect for lake trout.  Many anglers come to fish Big Vermilion Lake for the lake trout since it is such a good numbers lake.  You will usually catch a lot more lake trout here than on Minnitaki Lake, but the average size will be much smaller.  There are some big fish too, but not in the numbers that you will find on Minnitaki Lake.

Minnitaki Lake

This is a big, deep lake and it is home to plenty of lake trout.  For anglers that want to target trout, this is a good place to start.  With how big the lake is, you’re going to want to come here with good electronics to help you find some of the schools of bait fish and the lake trout that will be there feeding on them.  Anglers can catch pretty good numbers of them, but what really draws trout anglers here is the size of these fish.  There are a lot of big trout on this lake with fish up to and above 30 pounds possible.

Pelican Lake

Pelican Lake is a good-sized lake that covers more than 5,700 acres.  Water flows into Pelican Lake from Abram Lake via Frog Rapids.  The English River then exits the lake on the northwest side via Pelican Falls.  The Vermilion River flows into the lake on the west side.

Anglers catch lots of different fish here.  The fishing is good for walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass.  Lake trout, muskie, perch and whitefish are here too.
