Best Ways to Catch Lots of Muskie

It’s Hard to Catch Lots of Muskie

First of all, catching lots of muskie is tough to do.  However, for many anglers, they will go fishing for muskie several times and never catch a fish.  For others, they go to Canada and fish a less-pressured lake with lots of muskie in there and they have a 7 or 8 fish day.  This would be catching lots of muskie.  It could be 2 to 3 in a day or more.  This is very tough to do, but not impossible if you know what you’re doing and you visit the right places.

Go to Canada and Fish the Back Lakes

Up in Canada, many of the resorts know of local lakes that have good muskie fishing.  Many of these lakes will be portage lakes, so you will have to portage a boat or use one of theirs.  A lot of resorts will keep smaller boats on these portage lakes, so all you have to do is get there and then you can use their boats to fish.  Some of these places have such awesome fishing for muskie that you wouldn’t believe it if you weren’t there.  Not only can you catch multiple muskie in a day, on some of these waters, double digits totals are possible.

Cast to Cover Tons of Water

You most likely aren’t going to catch several muskie in a day without covering water.  Casting isn’t the only way to cover water, but it is arguably the best way to cover water and find active muskie.

Troll to Cover Tons of Water

Trolling is the easiest way to cover water for muskie and it can be very effective, especially when muskie are found in deeper water.  Slow troll live bait or speed it up with lures.  Both techniques work well.

Learn the Figure 8

The figure 8 technique is so important to hooking more muskie.  If you’re going to cast for muskie, you need to learn this technique or you will be missing out on a lot of opportunities.  This could be the difference in catching 3 muskie in a day or none.

Big Suckers are Really Hard to Beat

They are so tough to beat.  A lively sucker is one of the best ways to target muskie.  If you can slow troll them on the waters you are fishing, this is the best technique to find and catch more muskie.  To put more muskie in the boat, go with the smaller suckers in the 6 to 7 inch range.  These would be nice sized suckers for pike, but small for muskie.  By downsizing, you’re going to attract the smaller muskie as well as some big fish too.  This will help you catch more fish in a day.

Low Light Conditions Are Usually Best

Hit the early morning and late evening hard with your best action lures.  This is the time to put multiple fish in the boat and you won’t have much time before the peak bite ends.

Overcast Days & a Light Rain Provides Good Fishing All Day

This is probably one of the very best tips for catching multiple fish in a day.  An overcast day or one with light rain all day are the perfect conditions for catching multiple fish in a day.
