Fort Lauderdale is an outstanding vacation destination.  Located between Miami and Palm Beach, this city has a population of around 200,000 people.  There is more than enough to do here with some outstanding hotels, beautiful beaches, lots of water activities and much more.  You will not have to look very hard to find something for the whole family to enjoy.

The fishing in the Fort Lauderdale area is very good.  Most people plan trips here for the fishing offshore.  There are a variety of species to catch with many charters that focus on swordfish, marlin, shark, tuna and other big fish.  Don’t overlook the inshore fishing, pier fishing and surf fishing because there are lots of options down here depending how you like to fish.

Fort Lauderdale Inshore Fishing


Fort Lauderdale is known more for its offshore fishing, but the inshore fishing is also very good for a variety of fish. Tarpon and snook get most of the attention inshore, but you may also catch redfish, sea trout, ladyfish, sheepshead, jack crevalle and several other species of fish. The Hillsboro Inlet is a great fishing spot for many different fish. You also have numerous docks, canals and bridges to fish in this area.

Fort Lauderdale Nearshore Fishing


Nearshore, anglers can target a variety of fish from the reefs and wrecks.  Some boats can be found fishing the nearshore waters for snapper, grouper, king mackerel, bluefish, cobia and several other species of fish just a little ways out from the Fort Lauderdale beaches.

Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing


Fort Lauderdale is a great deep sea fishing destination. Anglers come here from all over the country to fish these offshore waters. There are several deep sea fishing charters in the area to take you out on a fishing trip. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo and others

Fort Lauderdale Shore Fishing


Pier Fishing

Anglins Fishing Pier is closed due to hurricane damage, so anglers have to head over to Dania Beach to do some pier fishing in this area.  The pier is known for some impressive catches with a variety of different fish being caught here throughout the year. From the pier, you can catch pompano, tarpon, sharks, Spanish mackerel, flounder, redfish, snook and many other types of fish.


Surf Fishing

From the surf, anglers have a lot of beach to fish and you can catch a variety of fish anywhere along the beach.  One of the popular places to fish the surf down here is the John U. Lloyd Beach State Park.  Some of the fish you may catch from the beach are pompano, redfish, Spanish mackerel, sharks, snook and many others.
