Fort Lauderdale is known more for its offshore fishing, but the inshore fishing is also very good for a variety of fish. Tarpon and snook get most of the attention inshore, but you may also catch redfish, sea trout, ladyfish, sheepshead, jack crevalle and several other species of fish. The Hillsboro Inlet is a great fishing spot for many different fish. You also have numerous docks, canals and bridges to fish in this area.

Nearshore, anglers can target a variety of fish from the reefs and wrecks. Some boats can be found fishing the nearshore waters for snapper, grouper, king mackerel, bluefish, cobia and several other species of fish just a little ways out from the Fort Lauderdale beaches.

The pier is known for some impressive catches with a variety of different fish being caught here throughout the year. From the surf, anglers have a lot of beach to fish and you can catch a variety of fish anywhere along the beach. One of the popular places to fish the surf down here is the John U.
