The spring is a great time to target a variety of fish in the shallows as walleye, pike, smallmouth bass, perch and lake trout can all be found much shallower than the summer. Anglers may experience spring like conditions with nice weather or a cold front with snow flurries possible in the first week or two of the fishing season. Make sure you come here prepared for both and if you hit it right, you may experience some of the easiest fishing of the season for walleye, pike, lake trout and perch. As waters warm up towards the end of May, the smallmouth bass bite gets really good too.

The summer brings a lot of anglers to this area, but there is still plenty of water to find a spot all to yourself in the area waters. Whether you plan on fishing one of the many smaller lakes in the area or Eagle Lake, you have lots of options. In the early summer, you can still find a lot of species still fairly shallow, but as waters warm towards the end of June and into July, the summer patterns set in and you will have to fish deeper. The fishing remains good all summer. You just have to move around and fish deeper water structure to consistently catch better quality walleye, pike, perch and smallmouth bass.
The muskie opener also brings many anglers to this area in June. Muskie can be found shallow and deep throughout the summer on the area lakes. It really all depends on the lake you are fishing. On some of the clear, deep lakes, you may be fishing 40 feet of water, while on other lakes, you may be catching muskie on topwater lures in 6 to 10 feet of water.
