What Type of Fishing Line
Mono is fine, but some anglers do use other types of line. You don’t need to though.
What Pound Test
20 pound test line is fine. You could go lighter, but you may lose some fish if you go lighter. Getting these fish away from the snags as quickly as possible will be the challenge after they bite. Most anglers catch them around pilings, docks or some type of rocky structure. Some anglers will use 30 pound braided line and add a 30 pound fluorocarbon leader. Once you lose a couple big sheepshead, you may not want to mess around in the future. Some anglers do catch them with 10 to 12 pound line, but we recommend going heavier.
