Welcome to our Pine Island Florida Fishing Home Page

Pine Island is a unique vacation destination. The island is the largest island on the west coast of Florida and it is just 15 to 20 minutes from Cape Coral, a half hour from Fort Myers and an hour from Southwest Florida International Airport. The towns that make up this island are Matalacha, St. James City and Bokeelia. You can also access the islands of Sanibel and Captiva within minutes depending on what type of boat and where you are actually staying on Pine Island. You won’t find miles of beaches on Pine Island. You’ll have to go to nearby Captiva, Sanibel or even Fort Myers Beach to find the beaches in this area. Pine Island is lined with mangroves, canals and vacation homes. You can get a taste of what old Florida used to be like on a visit to Pine Island.

The fishing is very good in this area.  Anglers target redfish, trout, snook, tarpon, grouper, snapper and many other species of fish, inshore, offshore and nearshore here.

Pine Island Florida Inshore Fishing

The inshore fishing in the waters around Pine Island offers anglers some of the best inshore fishing opportunities in the entire state of Florida. Some of the popular fish to catch inshore are snook, redfish, sea trout and tarpon, however there are so many more fish that you can catch here. This area has tons of mangroves to fish to go along with some awesome flats, canals, docks and bridges. The hardest thing to do here is to eliminate water to fish because everything looks so good. You won’t catch fish in every spot, but you if you understand how to fish inshore waters, you should have a blast fishing this area. Some of the other fish you may catch inshore are sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano and jack crevalle.

Pine Island Florida Nearshore Fishing

For those of you that want to run a little bit offshore, but not actually fish too far from land, you can definitely catch plenty of fish nearshore in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico just off Captiva and Sanibel Island. The other option is to fish off the northern part of Pine Island, which is very popular during the peak of the tarpon migration every spring. Most anglers will be fishing nearshore for tarpon, but you may also catch some snapper, grouper, Spanish mackerel and other species of fish.

Pine Island Florida Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing

You won’t find too many deep sea fishing charters that operate out of Pine Island, but there are several in the nearby destinations of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island. The offshore waters in this area are home to a variety of fish. The target species of fish will vary depending on the seasons, but this area will provide plenty of action year-round. Anglers target grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, permit, amberjack and goliath grouper.
