The Fort Pierce area is a popular vacation destination, although, it is not nearly as popular as some of the tourist destinations in Florida. As a result, this area has many uncrowded, peaceful beaches. This whole area of Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie and Jensen Beach provide visitors with a laid-back atmosphere and plenty of recreational opportunities. Spend some time boating, swimming, fishing or just laying out on the beach.
The fishing is very good in this area since you have so many options. You can fish inshore, offshore and from the beaches here. Fishing charters are available for inshore and offshore fishing trips. The Indian River provides some excellent fishing for snook, redfish, trout, tarpon and other species. Offshore, anglers target a variety of fish such as dolphin, wahoo, cobia, kingfish, barracuda, amberjack, sailfish, marlin, snapper and grouper.

Fort Pierce, FL Inshore Fishing
The Fort Pierce Inlet and nearby St. Lucie inlet help feed this area with plenty of bait fish and other bait with each incoming tide. The Indian river is home to some excellent fishing throughout Florida, but this area usually tends to produce great fishing due to these inlets. Many people just go fish the inlet, but you have so many options for targeting a variety of fish in the inshore waters here. You can fish the docks, bridges, channels and flats for tarpon, redfish, sea trout, ladyfish, sheepshead, pompano, sharks, bluefish, black drum, jack crevalle and more.

Fort Pierce, FL Nearshore Fishing
Some anglers do run along the beaches to fish the nearshore waters in this area. Anglers usually target kingfish, cobia, sharks, Spanish Mackerel and tarpon nearshore, but there are several other species of fish that can be caught. The time of year will dictate what fish will be more prevalent in the nearshore waters.

Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing
The Fort Pierce Inlet gives anglers access to the Atlantic Ocean. It is home to some excellent fishing offshore for a variety of different fish. The target species will vary depending on the seasons, but some of the fish that are targeted here offshore are grouper, snapper, cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, barracuda, sharks, mahi mahi, tuna, billfish, wahoo and others.

Fort Pierce, FL Shore Fishing
Pier Fishing
There are many smaller fishing piers throughout the county, but the Fort Pierce Inlet will get most of the attention from shore anglers in this area. The inlet offers fishing from the north and south jetties. To access the north jetty, take a look at the Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. The south jetty has some public parking available. From the jetties, you can catch snook, sheepshead, flounder, pompano, tarpon, sharks, spanish mackerel, whiting, flounder, redfish, trout, bluefish and others.
Surf Fishing
The Fort Pierce area also offers some excellent surf fishing from its miles of beaches. Some of the popular species from the surf are snook, pompano, redfish, spanish mackerel, black drum, sheepshead, sharks and other species of fish are also possible. Fish during the tidal changes and you should be able to catch some fish from the beach in this area.
