Tarpon Fishing in the Charlotte Harbor, Florida Area
While you may be able to catch some tarpon year round, the migratory tarpon will be providing the best fishing opportunities in this area. The spring and summer is when there are huge migrations of tarpon moving through this area as the fish head north. In the spring and early summer, it is very common for anglers to be targeting tarpon along the beaches out in the Gulf of Mexico as well as in the harbor around Boca Grande Pass. Charlotte Harbor sees one of the largest concentrations of large tarpon during the spring and early summer that you can find throughout the entire United States. It is truly an amazing place to be when the fish are here in large numbers. The only downside to this is you are going to be fishing around a lot of other boaters since this area definitely will draw a crowd when the tarpon run is happening.
Tarpon Fishing Tips
While many anglers may run into smaller tarpon and catch them without much effort, to consistently target bigger tarpon, you need to make sure you have the right tackle & equipment so things go your way. Tarpon will eat a variety of baits, so you have a lot of options when it comes to live & cut baits or artificial lures. The time of year is very important as well since tarpon will migrate a long way up and down both the Gulf & Atlantic Coasts each year.
