Crappie
The crappie fishing had a good run several years back on this lake, where the fishing was unbelievable, but that’s not the case anymore. Anglers that know how to fish for crappie can still probably target them and catch some, but it’s definitely more of a walleye, perch and northern pike fishery right now. It looks like the crappie are coming back as the reports keep getting better every year over the past few years, however, it’s not even close to what it was way back in the day. If you target crappie here though, you may find some big fish with crappies above 12, 13 and even 14 inches being reported here.

Yellow Perch
The perch fishing has rebounded quite nicely from the 2000s. For a while, Upper Red Lake had low numbers of perch, but that isn’t the case today. There are a lot of perch in this lake and if you target them specifically, you should be able to catch plenty of them. The nice thing about the fishery now is that it has a good amount of keeper-sized fish with lots of jumbo perch too. Most anglers end up catching some jumbo-sized while targeting walleye, but if the perch fishery continues to thrive, more anglers are going to specifically target them while fishing on this lake.
