Snook are found in the waters of Florida and in some other areas along the Gulf Coast. This fish is one of the most popular inshore fish. Since they can be found around docks and mangroves along the shorelines, snook are kind of like the largemouth bass for saltwater anglers.
Snook Fishing in the Sebastian, Florida Area
Sebastian, Florida is a very good snook fishing destination. The Sebastian Inlet holds good numbers of snook year round with summer and fall being very productive. The inshore waters here are also good for snook fishing as these fish will spread out throughout the Indian RIver around docks, mangroves, and other inshore cover. The fall mullet run is one of the most exciting times to fish around the inlet, however, you will definitely be fishing around plenty of other boats during this time of the year.
Snook Fishing Tips
Most anglers prefer to use lures for snook, but live baits such as jumbo shrimp and pilchards are some of the best baits to use. At times, snook can be super tough to catch on lures, but a lively shrimp or pilchard will usually still get plenty of bites even when they are picky. If you fish for bass in freshwater, the type of tackle will be similar to largemouth bass fishing except you may have to upsize the rod, reel and line a bit.
