Whiting Fishing in the Outer Banks, NC Area

Whiting are common along the beaches of the Outer Banks, NC.  There are miles of beaches, however, these beaches do attract lots of people to this area during the tourist season.  You may have to get out early in the a.m. or fish later in the evening to avoid the swimmers.  In the spring, the whiting and pompano start showing up in better numbers and you will start seeing good numbers of people out there targeting them in the surf.  It is a common fish to find in the surf from spring through fall.

Whiting Fishing Tips

Use smaller baits if you want to consistently hook a whiting.  Live and cut baits work great with shrimp being the favorite bait for most anglers.  Make sure to use smaller hooks, but you don’t want to go too light with your rod and reel.  In the surf, you will need some heavier line and a good-sized rod and reel still since you will deal with the crashing waves, current and potentially some bigger fish that may take your baits as well.
