The drop shot rig works great for northern pike, however, most anglers don’t use this rig to target them. It’s a great rig for fishing harder bottom with no vegetation. For many anglers, the drop shot rig is a go to rig when fishing the rocky bottoms of many of the excellent walleye and pike lakes up north.
Live Minnows
Keep it simple with a drop shot rig and lively minnow and you’ll catch lots of northern pike.
Soft Plastics
You can use a variety of soft plastics on a drop shot rig, but a simple 4 to 5 inch minnow bait is the most popular way to target pike on a drop shot rig.
