Panfish

Bream or Sunfish (Bluegill, Redear, Pumpkinseed, etc.)

There are bluegill, other sunfish and rock bass in Lake Simcoe.  Some anglers target them, while others will just enjoy catching them while targeting perch.  If you want to target them, fish the shallows around wood, rocks, weeds and boat docks and you’ll catch a lot of them in the spring and early summer.  The better quality sunfish will usually be found around the deeper weed lines or out in open water in the summer.

Crappie

Crappie are here in limited numbers on Lake Simcoe, but many anglers will target them in the spring when they move into the shallows to spawn.  Many people will fish in Cook’s Bay, but you can find them in other areas of the lake as well.  Target the wood, rocks and weeds along the shorelines, in the bays and in some of the rivers and canals that are connected to Lake Simcoe.  Once summer patterns set in, they can be quite difficult to find with all the deep, open water to roam.
