Snook are found in the waters of Florida and in some other areas along the Gulf Coast. This fish is one of the most popular inshore fish. Since they can be found around docks and mangroves along the shorelines, snook are kind of like the largemouth bass for saltwater anglers.
Snook Fishing in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida Area
While the deep sea fishing gets most of the attention in Fort Lauderdale, there is also some very good snook fishing here too. The warm waters of Fort Lauderdale, Florida provide excellent fishing opportunities for snook year round. Target them around the inlet, docks, mangroves and many other shore areas and you’ll find some fish. There are also plenty of canals just off the Intracoastal Waterway that have plenty of docks with underwater lights. This opens up the night fishing opportunities here to the anglers who don’t mind fishing in the dark. The mullet run also provides some very exciting fishing for snook in the fall.
Snook Fishing Tips
Most anglers prefer to use lures for snook, but live baits such as jumbo shrimp and pilchards are some of the best baits to use. At times, snook can be super tough to catch on lures, but a lively shrimp or pilchard will usually still get plenty of bites even when they are picky. If you fish for bass in freshwater, the type of tackle will be similar to largemouth bass fishing except you may have to upsize the rod, reel and line a bit.
