Whiting are one of the most popular fish targeted from the surf. The Atlantic ocean will hold tons of whiting in the surf from spring through fall. The area beaches will offer good fishing for whiting all summer, however, you may have to fish early in the a.m. or in the evenings to avoid the swimmers during the peak tourist season.
Whiting Fishing Tips
Use smaller baits if you want to consistently hook a whiting. Live and cut baits work great with shrimp being the favorite bait for most anglers. Make sure to use smaller hooks, but you don’t want to go too light with your rod and reel. In the surf, you will need some heavier line and a good-sized rod and reel still since you will deal with the crashing waves, current and potentially some bigger fish that may take your baits as well.
