Northern pike can be found on the flats in shallower water when they move into the bays during the spring. Once ice-out occurs, you can usually find a bunch of pike on these large flats in the bays. They might not always be easy to catch, but it’s hard to miss them if the water isn’t too murky. Fan cast these flats to find active fish. Make longer casts and pay attention with your eyes as well. Some anglers will spook these fish, then cast to where the fish is going and then they get bit. It won’t happen all the time, but if you aren’t paying attention with your eyes, you will miss these fish. Once the water temperatures start to warm up, you won’t find many pike on these flats as they will move to deeper water.
