Dams & Spillways

On good northern pike rivers, the dams and spillways can be good places to target northern pike.  It all depends on what types of current breaks are there and how much current is actually being created by the dam.  If the water is coming over too fast creating strong currents, there will have to be some current breaks for good numbers of pike to be present.

On some waters, it won’t be a dam.  It could be a spillway, a waterfall or a feeder creek feeding into the lake.  These spots are usually hot spots for bait fish and smaller fish, which brings in the pike too.  The spring and fall are usually better months to fish for pike around the dams and spillways.  If there is deeper water near the spillway, you may also experience good pike fishing all summer long.
