Crappie prefer wood, then weeds, then rocks usually. On some bodies of water though, the rocks may be the key for finding crappie. The rocks will hold fish as water temperatures warm and crappie move in for the spawn. Through summer and fall, crappie are known more for roaming the deeper waters, so most anglers that find crappie on the rocks during these times of the year will usually do so around offshore structure.
