Land O’ Lakes, WI
The Land O’Lakes area is a popular fishing vacation destination. There are so many lakes in this area whether you choose to stay in Wisconsin or head just over the border to fish in Michigan. There are some big lakes, plenty of medium-sized lakes and lots of smaller lakes that offer anglers good fishing opportunities. Anglers target walleye, muskie, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish.
Eagle River, WI
Eagle River, Wisconsin is one of the top places to visit in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Eagle River is very scenic with lots of wildlife. Numerous fishing lakes combined with miles of trout streams keep visitors coming back every year. You also have plenty of accommodations, restaurants and shops to make it a very convenient vacation. The Eagle River Chain of Lakes gets the most attention here, however, the other lakes in this area give anglers so many awesome fishing opportunities. This area has excellent fishing for muskie, walleye, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass with northern pike, trout and panfish available too.
Rhinelander, WI
Rhinelander, Wisconsin is a great place to get away from it all. Located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, you will enjoy outdoor activities in the vast forests and numerous lakes. Rhinelander sits on Boom Lake, which is one of the 1,100 lakes in Oneida County.
The Wisconsin River and Pelican River surround Rhinelander which help to give this area a well-rounded fishery. Muskie and walleye are abundant in the area lakes. Most anglers in this area will target walleye or muskie. If you like fishing for Muskie, this area is home to the Hodag Musky Challenge and it is one of the most prestigious catch and release musky tournaments in the Midwest. Some very nice fish are caught here every year. You can also catch northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, crappie, perch and other panfish in the area lakes. Bass are here, but usually under fished by most anglers.
Minocqua, WI
Minocqua is one of the most popular areas to visit in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. This area has one of the largest concentration of freshwater lakes in the country. There are numerous types of lodging, plenty of restaurants and some excellent outdoor opportunities.
The fishing in Minocqua is known for its muskie fishing, although, it has some pretty good fishing for walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish also. Northern pike are also available in many of the lakes. Take a look below to learn more about the area waters.
Tomahawk, WI / Lincoln County, WI
Lincoln County, Wisconsin is a popular destination for outdoor recreation since it is home to hundreds of lakes and streams. The Wisconsin River runs through here as well near the town of Merrill. Tomahawk is a good-sized community with every day conveniences and some excellent fishing with 3 rivers meeting up here. Whether you want to fish a river system or the many lakes in Lincoln County, you will have plenty of water to explore for a variety of different species of fish.
Lake Wisconsin
Lake Wisconsin is a 7,197 acre lake located in Sauk, Columbia Counties. It has a maximum depth of 24 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a bunch of public boat landings. Fish include walleye, sauger, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, catfish, trout and panfish. According to the DNR, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye are common in the lake.
Wisconsin Dells
The Wisconsin Dells are known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World.” This is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the midwest. With so many awesome hotels and so many attractions, fishing is way down on the list for most people who come to visit Wisconsin Dells. For those of you who are looking to do some fishing while visiting the Dells, there are some pretty good options.
Castle Rock Lake
Castle Rock Lake is only about 30 minutes from the Wisconsin Dells. It is a huge lake covering 13,955 acres. The lake is located in Adams, Juneau Counties. It has a maximum depth of 35 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a bunch of public boat landings. There are 3 public beaches as well. Fish include walleye, northern pike, white bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, muskie, sturgeon, catfish and a variety of panfish. According to the DNR, walleye and panfish are common in the lake while the other species listed are considered present.
Petenwell Lake
Petenwell Lake is a 23,173 acre lake located in Adams, Wood, Juneau Counties. It has a maximum depth of 44 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from many public boat landings. There is also a public beach on this lake. Fish include walleye, muskie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, sturgeon, catfish and panfish. According to the DNR, walleye and panfish are common in the lake while the other species of fish are listed as present.
