Bluefish are very common on the Atlantic Coastline and these fish will move through northeast Florida in good numbers every spring and fall. While you may still catch some of these fish here in the summer and winter, the spring and fall runs are definitely capable of producing some very good fishing opportunities for anglers who target them. Bluefish are known for running the beaches and moving into inlets and even back into some of the inshore areas. The St. Augustine Inlet is a great place to start when the bluefish are running. Anglers do well during the tidal changes near the river mouths, inlet, around the jetties and bridges.

Bluefish will eat a wide variety of baits and lures. You can catch them with topwater lures, jigs, spoons, crankbaits and many different types of live bait and cut bait. Wire leaders are a good idea when fishing for bluefish because their sharp teeth can easily cut through regular fishing line.
