Snook are found in the waters of Florida and in some other areas along the Gulf Coast. This fish is one of the most popular inshore fish. Since they can be found around docks and mangroves along the shorelines, snook are kind of like the largemouth bass for saltwater anglers.
Snook Fishing in the Space Coast Area
Snook like warm water and they can really struggle in the cool waters that winter brings to this part of the state in the winter. However, from late spring through early fall, the snook fishing can be good here. Redfish and sea trout are here in much greater numbers, but there are plenty of snook here too if you want to target them. Most anglers fish for them in the inshore waters of the Indian River, Mosquito Lagoon and the Banana River.
Snook Fishing Tips
Most anglers prefer to use lures for snook, but live baits such as jumbo shrimp and pilchards are some of the best baits to use. At times, snook can be super tough to catch on lures, but a lively shrimp or pilchard will usually still get plenty of bites even when they are picky. If you fish for bass in freshwater, the type of tackle will be similar to largemouth bass fishing except you may have to upsize the rod, reel and line a bit.
