Northern pike were stocked in many waters here illegally and the pike are here to stay. On many of the lakes, trout stocking has been stopped or limited to much smaller numbers once pike have been reported in the lakes because the pike are just eating the trout and growing bigger. Because of this, some lakes don’t have as many bait fish to eat, so you aren’t going to find as many big pike on these lakes. There are plenty of lakes in this part of Alaska that do have enough bait fish to maintain some well-fed pike and there are a lot of trophy pike caught here. Pike in the 20 pound range are caught every year and some fish up to and above 50 inches are caught here too.
