The spring opener brings excellent fishing for a variety of fish in the area. Most anglers will be fishing for walleye or panfish, but the bass fishing is very good and the pike are easy to catch too. From the opener through the end of May, you will find all species of fish much shallower than the rest of the year. Target the new green weeds and you’ll catch just about everything that swims in the area lakes. For smallmouth bass anglers, find the areas with rocks and sand. Wood is also great early in the year for smallies and other fish too.

The summer brings more boaters, but the fishing is very good here all summer long. As water temperatures rise through the summer, fish deeper and you may need to fish early in the morning on many of the popular lakes in the area. There are so many lakes to fish that you can easily find plenty of places to fish to get away from some of the boaters.

The fall provides very good fishing for all species of fish. For the largemouth bass and panfish, early to mid September provide excellent fishing. As water temperatures cool through the end of September into mid October, anglers do well with northern pike, smallmouth bass, walleye and panfish too. Muskie anglers will catch them all the way through November until ice forms.

The winter provides good ice fishing options. With all of the smaller lakes in the area, anglers can access waters that they couldn’t with bigger boats. Most anglers fish for walleye, northern pike and panfish through the winter.
