Hair Jigs

Hair Jigs work well for catching largemouth bass.  Anglers usually use hair jigs to target smallmouth bass, but they work for largemouth bass too.

Popular Techniques

Float and Fly

A slip bobber and hair jig is a great way to target largemouth bass.  Most anglers use this technique in colder water out in open water for smallies, but for largemouth bass, you will have much better luck by fishing it around cover.  Target deeper weed edges, docks and wood and you’ll catch largemouth bass.

Drifting

When the wind starts to blow, you can drift a hair jig by itself or with some live bait attached.  Fish deeper water along a drop-off and you’ll have better success with this technique.

Slow Trolling

Slow trolling with hair jigs can be effective when fishing deeper water for largemouth bass.  When the bite is finicky, add some live bait and you’ll catch a lot more bass.

Best Rigs for Hair Jigs

Fish Them By Themselves

A hair jig can be used on its own, but you will need lighter line and an ultra light to medium action rod and reel.  This will make it easier for you to cast greater distances to help you catch more fish.

Drop Shot Rig

The drop shot rig is a great way to get the additional weight needed to get these hair jigs down to deeper water faster.  Tip with some live bait for even better success.

Slip Bobber

A slip bobber is a great way to use hair jigs for suspended fish.  You can always tip them with live bait to make this technique even better.
