Wahoo Fishing in the Jacksonville, Florida Area
While tuna may be rare for most anglers in the offshore waters out of Jacksonville, the wahoo fishing can be very good for offshore anglers. Wahoo are pretty consistent for offshore anglers here for most of the year and they bite well in the colder, winter months. Northeast Florida is home to some very good wahoo fishing with good numbers and plenty of big fish, but it is a little bit of a drive with the Gulf Stream about 70 miles out from Jacksonville. There is also a popular fishing tournament in Northeast Florida called the Wahoo Shootout.
Wahoo Fishing Tips
They are often caught in very deep water. Many offshore fishing charters will troll for other fish, but they are known to set up one rod very deep for an occasional wahoo. While some fishing charters may go out and target these fish, most of the time, wahoo are considered a bonus fish. Either way, they are a lot of fun to catch and they provide some excellent table fare.
