This area is home to a lot of smaller lakes, but it does have larger lakes that are plenty big enough to hold good populations of a variety of fish with some big fish too.

Turtle Flambeau Flowage
The Turtle Flambeau Flowage is located in Iron County Wisconsin, near the towns of Mercer and Butternut. The Flowage consists of nine lakes, three rivers and several creeks. The flowage offers some beautiful surroundings and plenty of water for the outdoor enthusiasts. Boating and fishing are very popular on the flowage. Water skiing and jet skiing are permitted in some areas, but very limited, which makes it nice for the fisherman looking to find some peaceful surroundings. The Flowage supports a diversity of fish species including walleye, muskie, northern pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass, sturgeon, and a variety of panfish. The roaring rapids of the Flambeau River offer a more adventurous angling experience, however, there are calm area streams for the trout fishermen.
Gile Flowage
The Gile Flowage is a larger lake that covers 3,138 acres. It has a maximum depth of 25 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from public boat landings. Fish include muskie, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and panfish. According to the Wisconsin DNR, walleye are considered abundant while the other species of fish listed are common in the lake.
Trude Lake
Trude Lake is a 786 acre lake located in Iron County. It has a maximum depth of 48 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing. Fish include muskie, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.The lake’s water clarity is very clear. According to the DNR, northern pike and walleye are abundant. Muskie, smallmouth bass and panfish are considered common.
