Sea trout, also known as spotted seatrout, are occasionally caught in the Fort Lauderdale area, typically in brackish and inshore waters. While not as abundant here as on Florida’s west coast, trout can be found in local estuaries and backwaters during cooler months, especially where grass flats and current intersect.


Where to Catch Sea Trout


Sea trout are occasionally found:

In brackish creeks and canals

Over grass flats with moving water

Near points and drop-offs in the Intracoastal

Around docks and mangrove-lined shorelines

Lures: Soft plastic swimbaits, jerkbaits, and popping cork rigs

Bait: Live shrimp or finger mullet

Leaders: 15–20 lb fluorocarbon

Gear: Light spinning setups with good casting accuracy
