Black sea bass are an occasional bycatch when bottom fishing offshore reefs and wrecks near Fort Lauderdale. While not a primary target species, they are still prized for their firm, white meat and are often caught alongside snapper and porgies on reef structure.

Black sea bass are typically found:

On deeper reefs and natural bottom offshore

Around wrecks in 80–200 feet of water

Mixed in with other reef species

Usually caught on cut bait fished on the bottom

Lures: Vertical jigs or bucktail jigs

Bait: Squid strips or cut bait on bottom rigs
