Fishing Destin in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 70° / 46°
April 77° / 53°
May 84° / 61°

The warm spring air helps warm up the waters quickly and this helps trigger the resident fish to start feeding more aggressively.  As waters warm, this will also bring migrating fish into the area.  In the spring, anglers catch lots of redfish ,sea trout, whiting, flounder, black drum and sheepshead.  Depending when you fish here in the spring, you may also find good numbers of bluefish, jacks, cobia, tarpon, pompano and sharks.

Fishing Destin in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 89° / 69°
July 90° / 71°
August 90° / 71°

Once summer arrives, fishing is in full swing in the Panhandle.  Inshore, anglers do well with redfish, sea trout, flounder, jacks and black drum.  Some sheepshead are still in the area, however, the adult fish  will go offshore to spawn in the summer.  For many anglers, tarpon will become the big draw in the summer because this is when there are bigger numbers of them as they migrate through.  Anglers also catch bluefish, jacks, sharks, pompano and more.  Red snapper fishing is great in the summer, however there will be a season that limits how many days you can fish for them and this varies from year to year.  Offshore, there are so many species to target.

Fishing Destin in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 87° / 67°
October 80° / 55°
November 71° / 46°

In September and October, there are still good numbers of migratory fish, however when the water cools off into November, these fish will be more limited.  Plan on having good opportunities to fish for redfish, sea trout, flounder, black drum and the sheepshead fishing gets better as the water gets cooler. Offshore, the charter boats will be targeting grouper, snapper, wahoo, marlin, sailfish, amberjacks, sharks, yellowfin tuna and more.

Fishing Destin in the Winter

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 64° / 40°
January 61° / 37°
February 64° / 40°

In the winter, cold fronts can make fishing a lot tougher, however, there is still some good fishing during this time of year.  Inshore fishing is a little more predictable as you can still get out of the wind and catch a good number of fish in the bay even with colder weather.  The fishing is very good for Sheepshead during the winter and they will feed even when it gets cold.  Redfish, flounder and trout are available all winter in the bays as well.  Offshore may be hit or miss, but many of the charters will be out there fishing for white and vermilion snappers.
