Offshore, grouper and snapper get the most attention when they are in season, however, cobia, amberjack, wahoo, blackfin tuna, kingfish, dolphin, sailfish, marlin and many other fish are available depending on the season.

Choctawhatchee Bay is a prime location for anglers, providing ample chances to catch fish in its smaller bays, around bridges, docks, up the creeks, and along the flats. While most anglers focus on targeting redfish and speckled trout, you can also hook into sheepshead, ladyfish, pompano, jack crevalle, black drum, and a variety of other species.
Tides play a significant role in inshore fishing success, as moving water is critical for attracting most fish species. Nearshore Fishing
Nearshore, anglers can target a variety of fish along the beaches of the Emerald Coast. The inshore and offshore fishing may get a lot more attention that the nearshore fishing here, but tarpon and cobia do generate plenty of interest when they are in the area. The jetties are located at the entrance of Destin Harbor where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. They are very popular among boaters, anglers and divers. Getting to the jetties is not easy from shore, so most people experience the jetties by boat. However, you can walk to them if you’re up for a 20 to 45 minute walk depending on which jetty you plan to visit.
