Pickwick Lake & Wilson Lake

Pickwick & Wilson Lake are known mostly for the excellent trophy smallmouth bass fishing.  You can usually find good numbers of fish and some big fish mixed in once you learn the better spots on this lake.  It’s one of the better lakes in the entire country for targeting smallmouth bass and it gives anglers an opportunity to still fish for these fish when all the great smallmouth lakes up north are too cold to fish.  Below the Pickwick and Wilson dams, anglers have a lot of success especially when fishing with live baits such as shad or big minnows.  The current dictates a lot on this lake for the smallmouth bass just like it would in any river system. When they release water, this current running through the lake will help position fish and it usually gets the bite going.  Smallmouth in the 2 to 4 pound range are common and fish above 5, 6 and even 7 pounds are not unheard of on Pickwick Lake.
